LITTLE FLOWERS returns for April! In Latin, a florilegium literally means “a gathering of flowers.” Florilegiums were a kind of personal anthology and collection of favorite literary extracts assembled by scholars. For this edition of the DEAD POETS WORKSHOP, we will read single poems from a wide array of authors. A gathering of flowers. Our own greatest hits of poetry. Reading list includes Bernadette Mayer, Etheridge Knight, Emily Dickinson, Wallace Stevens, Sylvia Plath, Barbara Guest, Tomaz Salamun, James Tate, Elizabeth Bishop, Frank O’Hara, Lorine Niedecker, Amiri Baraka, Fernando Pessoa, Audre Lorde, Bertolt Brecht, John Wieners, Alfred Starr Hamilton, June Jordan, Kenneth Koch, William Carlos Williams, Li Qingzhao, Robert Creeley, Robert Hayden, Dylan Thomas, John Ashbery & more. Oh Boy!
Students will submit poems for feedback on a weekly basis, with optional writing prompts also provided. We will put our writing in conversation with the DEAD to better understand why were are even writing poems in the first place. Class meets on Thursdays in April.

For May, we will celebrate the era of the “little magazine” by unearthing facsimiles of rare chapbook published by small presses like Adventures in Poetry, Angel Hair Books, and TUUMBA. Reading list includes Hannah Weiner, Russell Atkins, John Giorno, Gwendolyn Brooks, Bob Kaufman, Lorenzo Thomas, Bernadette Mayer, Ted Berrigan, and more.

DEAD POETS WORKSHOP: THE CHANGING LIGHT AT SANDOVER
Now enrolling for June.
For the month of June, the DEAD POETS WORKSHOP is doing a book club, and that book is THE CHANGING LIGHT AT SANDOVER, James Merrill's 560 page epic trilogy composed over the course of 20 years by way of transcribing supernatural Ouija board transmissions received by Merrill and his partner David Jackson. We will read and discuss the entire text along with supplementary criticism.
Cultivation of our own divinatory practices will be strongly encouraged! Students are required to obtain their own copies of the text for this session.
